Each year, the NAGTRI International Fellows Program provides a forum for elite government attorneys from around the world to learn from each other, explore common issues, and establish an international network for the mutual benefit of their respective offices. Approximately 18-20 participants will be chosen for the 2016 program, which will include a combination of government leaders from the United States and abroad. Past programs have included participants from Afghanistan, Armenia, Australia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Brunei, Bulgaria, Canada, China, Czech Republic, El Salvador, Hungary, Iraq, Israel, Jamaica, Kyrgyzstan, Macedonia, Malawi, Mali, Mexico, Mongolia, Nepal, Netherlands, New Zealand, Nigeria, Philippines, Portugal, Qatar, Russia, Sri Lanka, Somalia, Taiwan, Thailand, Timor Leste, Uganda, Ukraine, United Kingdom, and United States, among others.

This is a challenging and demanding program, requiring full engagement in the materials, lectures, and participating fully in a group research and writing project. Selected participants will present their research findings before a prestigious panel in New York City. The 2017 program theme will be “Prosecutorial Strategies and Tools to Combat the Illegal Trade of Persons and Goods.” Fellows are not expected to be experts in this area or have experience with the issue in the course of their professional duties. Rather, the topic serves as a vehicle for the class to analyze an issue with fresh and unique perspectives. Fellows will work in groups to produce articles on this theme, which will be published in a NAGTRI publication.Fellows will also be given the opportunity to meet with senior officials from the federal law enforcement and judicial community in Washington, D.C., as well as state law enforcement officials from the area. Additionally, Fellows will participate in a host of cultural activities in Washington, D.C., and New York City.
